The Four Elements or Winter (Les quatre éléments or L’iver), circa 1633. Musée de l’Œuvre Notre-Dame. This tableau is an allegory of four seasons represented with symbols - air is represented with a goose on a skewer, poultry on the wall, turkey lard on the plate; water is represented with fish; earth with vegetables; fire with chimney and spitfire. The stew, cooked with cabbage, pig's feet, chard, bacon, roast goose, stuffed turkey with onions (hanging wall) is a typical winter dish.
