PENCCIL: THE CREATIVE MANIFESTO FOR THE 21ST CENTURY

CREATIVITY IS PROGRESS.

Every object, every idea, every technology, every insight stems from human creativity.
Without creativity we could never innovate.
Creativity and design advance the cultural, social, economic and environmental perspectives of our planet.
Creativity is crucially necessary for human progress.

CREATIVITY IS KNOWLEDGE.

The creative process generates knowledge:
The knowledge gained from trial end error.
The knowledge of transforming things.
The knowledge to create new environments and systems.
The knowledge how to get from situation A to situation B.

STOP THE WASTE OF CREATIVE KNOWLEDGE.

The knowledge generated in the creative process is usually lost in a black box.
Only traces of the creative process, and with it creative knowledge, remain in the final products of creative activity.
We therefore need to reconnect the creative process with the knowledge it generates.

BREAK DOWN THE BOUNDARIES OF CREATIVE PRODUCTION.

To stop the waste of creative knowledge, we need to remove the boundaries which separate the creative process from the outcome it generates.
We need to break down the vestigial silos and geographical barriers separating creators from spectators, ideators from realizers, and theory from practice.
We need to bring creation, curation, and presentation back together and enable the creative process to be one continuous common human effort.

CREATIVITY IS A COMMON HUMAN EFFORT.

We need to enable collaboration without boundaries.
Collaboration does not mean consensus: It means the open exchange of opinion, skill, and knowledge.
We need to inspire the open dialogue between mentors, professionals and amateurs.

THERE IS NO END TO CREATIVITY.

All creative work is always work in progress.
