Sebastian Stoskopff the Painter of Vessels
Sebastian (or Sébastien) Stoskopff (Strasbourg, July 13, 1597 – Idstein February 10, 1657) was an Alsatian painter. Nowadays, he is considered one of the most important German still life painters of his time. Long forgotten and unsung compared to Dutch and Flemish still life painters of the European Baroque period, his works were rediscovered by art historians only after 1930.

Stoskopff is known to be a painter well-versed in portraying goblets, cups and particularly glasses. His still life compositions are characterized to be reduced to a few objects. Chief works by Stoskopff today are mostly hanging in Strasbourg, France and in Saarbrücken, Germany.
