Jindrich Halabala, United Arts and Crafts

Jindrich Halabala (May 24, 1903 Korycany - November 18, 1978 Brno) was a Czech furniture designer, writer and educator. He is known for his furniture designs for the UP factory between 1925 to 1955, where he worked as designer and greatly influenced the appearance of interwar and postwar Czech households. Halabala learned at the Woodworking School in Valasske Mezirici and studied at the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague. He worked at the studio of Bohumil Hübschmann in Prague before designing furniture for United Arts and Crafts Manufacture (UP). Between 1951 and 1954 he was an external lecturer at the Faculty of Forestry and Timber Engineering at VSPD in Kosice. In 1954 he was appointed professor at the University of Forestry and Wood in Zvolen.
