Mapping Reality

by Joshua Pacheco

During a walk through Berlin Moabit I sketched my perception of the surrounding streets. The result was a map, that diverged from mechanically created maps. In comparisson with a Google-Map, which uses the Mercator projection as form of visualization, I found empty spaces between my perception and this digital reality. To visualize these spaces, I created a poster. It shows my perceived and the mechanically conceived surroundings next to each other and a combination that points out the differences above. The resulting question is, wether the maps that we look at daily on our phones, change our perception of our surrounding and the way we move in it.
