Édouard Vuillard: Turn of the Century Paris
A painter of interiors and park landscapes, Vuillard created his first lithograph series in black-and-white. The artist’s involvement with the Parisian avant-garde theater scene in the 1890s began when he took on creating theater programmes leaflets. It was a period which gave birth to the premieres of many scandalous theater productions, which often offended audience members. The lithographs Vuillard made for such productions are extremely rare finds today. From the 15th of April to the 28th of June, 2015, Staatliche Graphische Sammlung at the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich presented an exhibition of Vuillard´s color lithographs, a mastery very few had achieved at his time.
