Johann David Steingruber was an architectural designer and builder in the service of margrave Karl Wilhelm Friedrich von Brandenburg-Ansbach in 18th century Germany. His responsibilities encompassed present-day Middle Franconia, Swabia and Lower Franconia. Sometimes he also built in the territory of the Free Imperial City of Nuremberg and in the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld. In Brandenburg-Ansbach he built 24 churches, 18 towers, 21 school buildings, 40 parish churches, 5 breweries, three town halls, 4 hospitals and numerous private houses. Before the "Architectural Alphabet" he published "Practical bourgeois architecture" with examples from his own architectural practice in 1763.
