How do you express time without the abstracting concepts of numbers or watch hands?
In the theory of loop quantum gravity, spacetime is defined as an evolving landscape of spacetime strands which define the shape of the spacetime fabric in their vicinity. This generative app starts with strings of time which expand into colorful, abstract forms. These evolving shapes are inspired by the formal aesthetic of Salvador Dalì, who famously depicted time as a melted clock in his painting "The persistence of memory".
Watches are instruments which abstract time into a measurable, uniform process. The human experience of time is, however, not uniform: Some events seem to take forever, while others appear to fly by too quickly. To capture this human perception of time, time strands in this app develop slowly, but occasional sudden topological changes (bifurcations) happen where new time shapes get defined quickly. The Spacetime weaver does not, as a watch does, give you information about an abstracted moment at a glance. It requires time in order to let you experience an idea of how time evolves.
