Researching ornament and color
Menu
Annotate & Collect
To research the appeal of ornaments and color combinations, we developed an algorithm which generates arabesque patterns and tested the outcomes with a group of people. For the perception of ornaments as pleasant and harmonious, symmetry and contingency are important. Different configurations of contingent compositions evoke different historical and cultural connotations and are perceived as either Gaelic, Medieval or Islamic. Compositions with non-contingent connections are perceived as unpleasant. © Mario Gagliardi Design 2010
