The Perch Collection consists of several pieces based on the same construction: a reading chair, coat-rack, rocking chair, chair, and desk with integrated light. Colour scheme harmony is an important part of the project with each colour coded for a different function or specific place you would typically find the piece of furniture in your home. One of the goals from the outset was to design pieces that could be easily made using low-tech techniques. Bringing curvature to a light flat material was of added interest as plywood lends itself well to making maximum use of constraints through torsion so as to create a solid structure. The collection is made of 24mm birch plywood for the structure and 2mm aircraft grade birch plywood for curved components. The reading chair’s lampshade for its part is made of traditional Japanese paper and natural wicker. Several Perch Collection pieces are available from Specimen Edition.
