Can a fake material be authentic? The property of authenticity is almost always seen as something positive, as an object is then neither artificial nor false. In this project I have looked at which factors influence how we regard an object’s authenticity. By experimenting with the production process and considering the purpose of imitation materials, I attempt to investigate our relationship to both material and craft. Can an obviously artificial material become authentic thanks to an artisan production method?
